Higher Cuban Prices

Cuban cigars are considered to be some of the finest cigars in the world and have been enjoyed by aficionados for centuries. However, in recent years, the prices of Cuban cigars have been on the rise, and one of the main reasons for this is the growing demand for these cigars in the Chinese market.      The Chinese market for cigars has been growing rapidly in recent years, driven by a growing middle class and a growing interest in luxury goods. According to a report by the consulting firm KPMG, the market for cigars in China is expected to reach $1 billion by 2025. This growing demand for cigars in China has led to a shortage of high-quality cigars, including Cuban cigars.      One of the reasons for the shortage of Cuban cigars in China is the U.S trade embargo, which prohibits American companies from importing Cuban cigars. This has made it difficult for Chinese consumers to access these cigars, driving up the prices. Additionally, th...

The best dish in Louisiana!

Gumbo is a beloved dish in Louisiana with a rich history and cultural significance. Originally brought over by West African slaves, gumbo is a blend of various cultural influences, including French, Spanish, Native American, and African.      The origins of gumbo can be traced back to the 18th century in Louisiana. Slaves working on plantations would often make a dish called "okra soup" using okra as a thickener. Over time, this dish evolved to include various meats, seafood, and vegetables, becoming what is now known as gumbo.      Gumbo is often considered the quintessential dish of Louisiana Creole cuisine, which is a fusion of French, Spanish, African, and Native American cultures. The dish is known for its use of the "holy trinity" of onions, bell peppers, and celery as well as the use of roux, a mixture of flour and fat that is used to thicken the gumbo.      One of the most popular variations of gumbo is seafood gum...

Carriages in NOLA

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of visiting New Orleans and taking a horse carriage ride through the historic French Quarter. Initially, I was hesitant to go on the ride, as I had a preconceived notion that it would be a typical tourist trap. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed the experience, and the lessons I learned about the rich history of the city.      The carriage ride was pulled by a team of mules, who were the real stars of the show. These hardworking animals are specially trained to navigate the narrow and often busy streets of the French Quarter. They have been used as the primary mode of transportation for carriage rides in the city for over a century. The mules, known for their intelligence, strength, and endurance, are well taken care of by their handlers, who are experts on the care and training of these animals.      During the ride, my guide shared with me interesting historical facts about t...

The Beauty in Boutique

I love boutique cigar companies, especially Foundation Cigars, for their unique approach to branding and marketing. One of the things that draws me to Foundation in particular is their use of historical branding. The company takes inspiration from the rich history of cigars, using names and packaging that harken back to the early days of the cigar industry.      But it's not just the branding that sets boutique cigar companies like Foundation apart from larger manufacturers. There are a few key differences that make boutique cigars a truly special experience.      First, boutique companies tend to use high-quality, carefully sourced tobacco. The tobacco used in these cigars is often grown on small, family-owned farms and handpicked to ensure only the best leaves are used. This gives the cigars a unique and often richer flavor than those produced by larger manufacturers.      Second, boutique companies tend to produce cigar...

The Art of Lagniappe: Understanding Louisiana's Unique Custom of Giving a Little Extra

Louisiana is known for its unique culture, vibrant music, and delicious cuisine, but there's another aspect of Louisiana life that's just as unique: the custom of lagniappe. If you're not from Louisiana, the term "lagniappe" may be unfamiliar to you, but it's an important part of the state's culture and something that Louisiana's people hold dear.      At its most basic level, lagniappe (pronounced lan-yap) refers to something given as a little extra or bonus. It's often used in the context of a purchase, such as a store giving a customer a small gift with a purchase or a baker slipping an extra beignet in a bag. But lagniappe isn't just about material gifts; it can also refer to a kind word, an act of kindness, or a gesture of goodwill.      The origins of lagniappe can be traced back to the Spanish and French colonists who settled in Louisiana in the 18th century. The term comes from the Spanish word "la ñapa," which means ...

Tupperdor vs Humidor: Understanding the Differences and Choosing the Right Solution for Your Cigars

If you're a cigar enthusiast, you know that properly storing cigars is essential to ensure they maintain their flavor, aroma, and overall quality. There are a couple of options for storing cigars: Tupperdors and humidors. But what's the difference between the two? And which one is the best choice for you? Let's take a closer look.      A Tupperdor is a plastic storage container, such as a Tupperware container, that is modified to maintain humidity levels suitable for cigars. They are often an affordable option for beginners and a good temporary storage solution. Tupperdors typically use a damp sponge or a humidifier to add humidity to the container and a hygrometer to monitor the humidity level.      On the other hand, a humidor is a specially designed container made to store cigars. It is typically constructed out of wood, such as cedar or Spanish cedar, which helps to regulate the humidity levels inside. Humidors also come with a built...

The Case for the Straight Cut: Why it's the Best Way to Enjoy a Cigar

When it comes to enjoying a cigar, there are a few different ways to cut the cigar's cap. You can use a guillotine cutter, a V-cutter, or even bite off the cap. However, in my experience, the best way to cut a cigar is with a straight cut. Here's why.      First, a straight cut allows for the most efficient airflow through the cigar. This is important because a cigar needs to be smoked evenly to truly enjoy its flavor profile. When you use a guillotine cutter or a V-cutter, you're more likely to leave behind small pieces of tobacco that can clog the airflow, causing the cigar to smoke unevenly. With a straight cut, you get a clean cut, allowing for a smooth and even draw.      Second, a straight cut is the most versatile way to cut a cigar. A V-cutter can only be used on cigars with a straight edge, whereas a straight cut can be used on any type of cigar. This makes it the ideal choice for any smoker, whether you prefer a thin cigar or a...

A Night with Perdomo

There's nothing quite like a good cigar to unwind and relax after a long day. Recently, I had the pleasure of trying out a few Perdomo cigars, and I have to say, they exceeded my expectations.      For starters, the construction of the cigars was impeccable. Each one had a smooth, even burn and a nice, tight ash. The draw was effortless, and the smoke was thick and flavorful. I especially enjoyed the medium-bodied flavors of the Perdomo Habano Bourbon Barrel Aged Maduro, which had notes of chocolate, espresso, and a subtle sweetness from the bourbon barrel aging.      Another thing I appreciated about Perdomo cigars was their versatility. I enjoyed smoking them after dinner, but they would also be great to enjoy with a whiskey or a brandy. Perdomo cigars would be perfect for any occasion and any cigar smoker preferences.      But what I liked most about Perdomo cigars was the way they made me feel. Smoking a cigar can be a...

Plasencia - A Favorite Among Many

Cigar enthusiasts know that finding the perfect cigar can be a journey. For me, that journey led me to Placencia cigars. These cigars are made in Nicaragua and are known for their rich flavors and smooth smoking experience. In this post, I'll be sharing my personal experience with Placencia cigars and why I believe they are among the best cigars available.      When I first tried a Placencia cigar, I was struck by its rich, complex flavors. The cigar had notes of chocolate, coffee, and spice, which I found to be a perfect combination. The cigar was also smooth, with no harshness or bitterness.      One of the things I appreciate about Placencia cigars is the attention to detail that goes into each cigar. The cigars are crafted using only the highest quality tobacco leaves and are aged for a minimum of 6 months. This aging process helps to bring out the cigars' full flavors and make them even smoother to smoke.      Another...
